Shorthand SMS Apps send and receive information using SMS, also known as text messaging. The difference is that Shorthand has an awesome user interface that blows regular SMS text messaging out of the water.

Many services are available today even without Shorthand, including Facebook and Google. You can use them by sending a keyword like “weather” to a special phone number, a “short code,” that is set up for the service. Try sending “weather” and your zip code to the phone number 466453 (GOOGLE). The six-digit phone number is Googles SMS short code.

Whats awesome about Shorthand is that you don’t have to remember or type any short codes or keywords! In fact, Shorthand adds extra functionality that’s not available over regular SMS. Simply scroll-and-click through a quick, intuitive menu system and youve got exactly what you want.

Yes, the Shorthand software really is free. And because it works with SMS technology, it’s compatible with your existing text messaging plan. Standard messaging rates apply. If you have unlimited texting, using Shorthand is free. If you have a limit to your texting plan, you’ll want to watch how many Facebook updates you send, Tweets you Twitter, and pizzas you order from Pizza Hut. Shorthand sends and receives text messages just like your regular texting plan, only better. Once you get started with Shorthand, you’re going to love how easy and fun it is to use.

You can always see how many messages you’re sending by checking your message counter in the application. From the main menu select Options -> Message Counter.

Shorthand does offer some premium services like Weather Bug which may charge for their use. These will always be clearly marked.

Supports a Variety of Business Models

Downloading the Shorthand software DOES use the data channel. If you don’t have a data plan, getting Shorthand on your phone will incur a one-time charge from the operator on your pay-as-you-go data plan. See the download page for recent data charges.

One of the great things about Shorthand is that we’re always adding new SMS Apps. If you choose to download a new app in the future, this will access the data channel as well. Individual apps are tiny. You can always check the size of an app in your download page before deciding to download.

Certain SMS apps and promotions offer the option to click directly through the Shorthand message to a website based on your request. We'll leave it up to you if you want to do that.
